PACER ATHLETICS
Rec Leadership
Rec Leadership 11/12 is a hands-on course for students who want to build leadership skills, promote active living, and gain real-world experience in event planning and project management. Throughout the year, students will take the lead in designing, organizing, and running a variety of recreational activities both within the school and in the wider community.
Key responsibilities include coordinating lunchtime intramural leagues, organizing Grade 6/7 volleyball and basketball tournaments, assisting with athletic events through scorekeeping and lining, and leading activities at local elementary schools. Students may also pursue school-wide initiatives they are passionate about.
In 2025/26, some of the featured initiatives include:
-
Creating and maintaining bulletin boards near the gyms to share updates and promote events
-
Leading Green Shirt Day in April to honour the Humboldt Broncos and promote organ donation awareness
-
Partnering with Grade 6/7 teachers to host a Q&A session, followed by a school visit that includes cookies, hot chocolate, and a student-led tour
-
Hosting the Stebbing Murray Cup, with all ticket proceeds supporting the School District Food Bank, along with an additional fundraiser during the event
-
Launching empowerHER, a female mentorship program where Grade 11/12 girls mentor Grade 8 girls involved in athletics through guest speakers, events, and community-building activities
-
Organizing a Game Day Crew to cheer on our Pacer teams with drums, face paint, t-shirt giveaways, and more to build school spirit
This course requires a commitment beyond regular class hours, as many events and activities take place during lunch, after school, or in the community. Students will earn service hours for their involvement.
Students enrolling in Rec Leadership should be responsible, reliable, self-motivated, and enthusiastic about recreational activities. A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and respectful behaviour are essential for success.
